Tonsehen label announcement

2020 has been a challenging year in so many different ways, but as we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, the Arts Laureate team and I wanted to offer a few notes of gratitude. We are grateful for the soul-cleansing, spirit-filling music that we have seen and heard throughout the year even as conventional performances became impossible. We are grateful for the perseverance, ingenuity, and passion of the artists that have continued to make great art in the face of such extraordinary circumstances. We are grateful for the warm interactions, collaborations, and musical friendships that we have formed as we collectively navigate the current landscape of presenting music. Throughout these changes, moving from live performances and recording sessions of all sizes to virtual recordings and small socially distant sessions, we have maintained our commitment to creating high quality performances.

At a time when concert halls are closed, we feel it is now more important than ever to let our ears see music with the same clarity and depth as can be experienced hearing it in person.

And so, we are launching a new record label - Tonsehen. Tonsehen (“Tone-zay-un”) comes from the German words for sound and sight and we will showcase artists and recordings that present a new paradigm of image in music.

We are thrilled to be launching the label with two releases from artists who have embodied all the characteristics we are so thankful for - passionate music-making, perseverance, and invigorating collaboration. The Maryland Chamber Winds and the Salon Trio are both deeply connected to the community in which they perform and champion music that is both challenging and accessible to the listener. We will have more information about each release soon, but in the meantime please visit Tonsehen to learn about and listen to each of these wonderful additions to the catalogue.
